Samra Vazirian, MD

Samra Vazirian, MD was exposed to healthcare concerns early in her childhood through her parents, who as the World Health Organization doctors, were pioneers of Polio eradication in the Middle East. She had the opportunity to experience various cultures and languages since childhood while her parents traveled globally to fulfill their Global Health commitments. Inspired by her early life experiences, Dr. Vazirian grew up to be a compassionate individual and found her passion early-on in medicine. She was involved in path-breaking research that received awards and media coverage by American Academy of Neurology. Her research culminated in publications and a book chapter authored by her. Her diverse experiences since her childhood until now, including her Global Health work with the United Nations, impart her the empathy needed to be a compassionate neurologist.

Nerve Conduction Test

This test is done to measure a patient’s electrical impulse as it moves through the nerve. It can also be done to identify nerve damage. Usually, during the test, electrode patches are attached to your skin as your nerve gets stimulated.

Electromyography (EMG) is a diagnostic procedure to assess the health of muscles and the nerve cells that control them (motor neurons). EMG results can reveal nerve dysfunction, muscle dysfunction or problems with nerve-to-muscle signal transmission.

At Neurology & Neurotherapeutics Center we proudly provide routine and long-term ambulatory video EEG monitoring. EEG test detects the abnormalities in the electrical activity of your brain or in your brain waves. The procedure includes attachment of electrodes, made up of small metal discs and thin wires, onto your scalp. These electrodes will detect little amount of electrical charges as a result of the activity of your brain cells.

Skin Punch Biopsy – Small Fiber Neuropathy

Since Neurology & Neurotherapeutics Center opened, our patients have depended on us to provide them with the most up-to-date diagnostic procedures. One of these is the skin punch biopsy, a diagnostic test done to detect small fiber neuropathy. Small fiber neuropathy is a disease and its symptoms include numbness, tingling (pins and needles sensation), and pain.

Trigger Point Injections

Trigger points are the painful “knots” in your muscles that form when a muscle cannot relax. A trigger point injection can help soothe pain, especially in your neck. It can be used to treat tension headaches and myofascial pain as well.

This procedure involves injection of steroids and pain-relieving medication into your lesser and greater occipital nerves. It's primarily used as a treatment for chronic migraines and occipital neuralgia.
